Pumpkin & Oat
Digestive Biscuits

📅 April 2026✍️ BudgetDoggo

Pumpkin is one of the most effective, evidence-backed digestive aids for dogs. It's high in soluble fibre, which bulks up loose stools and softens hard ones — vets recommend it for both constipation and diarrhoea. These biscuits are a gentle, tasty way to add it to your dog's diet regularly.

⚠️ Before you start: Follow the 10% treat rule — treats should not exceed 10% of your dog's daily calories. Introduce new foods gradually. Never add salt, garlic, onion, xylitol, grapes, raisins, chocolate, macadamia nuts, or alcohol. If your dog has allergies, a health condition, or is on medication, check with your vet first.

Ingredients

1
Mix wet ingredients
Combine the pumpkin, egg, yogurt and salmon oil in a bowl. Whisk until smooth.
2
Add flour and ginger
Stir in the oat flour and ginger until a firm dough forms. If sticky, add more oat flour a tablespoon at a time.
3
Roll and cut
Roll out to about 6mm thickness on a floured surface. Cut into shapes or small squares.
4
Bake until crisp
Bake at 170°C for 25 minutes, then turn the oven off and leave inside for another 10 minutes — this dries them out so they stay crunchy. Cool completely before serving.

Why pumpkin works
Pumpkin is very high in soluble fibre and contains natural enzymes that support digestive health. Vets frequently recommend 1–4 tablespoons of plain canned pumpkin per day to help regulate dogs with mild diarrhoea or constipation. These biscuits are a more palatable, treat-sized delivery method.
